Welcome to Jerry Johnston Ranches.
One of our ranches is located where
I live near Castroville in Medina
County. We have been high fenced
here since 1994 and have been under
a strict management program since
then. When I purchased the ranch in
1993, we eliminated the existing
native deer herd and Triple T’d 28
breed does from the Roy Hinds ranch
near Charlotte Texas. The Hinds
ranch was one of the first ranches
to high fence in South Texas .
Several gross and a few net B and
C’s have been taken on this ranch
over the years. Roy's genetics to
this day are some of the best in
South Texas. Consequently, we have
excellent genetics with long brows
and mulely forks which are
very uncommon. We have taken many
150 and 160 class deer over the past
10 years and a few that grossed over
170 and some even in the 180’s. On
most hunts, a hunter will see a
minimum of 15 to 20 bucks per
morning or evening hunt. We have an
equal number of bucks in all age
classes so that we have an equal
number of replacements each year. We
generally have 15 to 18 mature bucks
to choose from each year. High-end
trophy class and exceptional
management deer are all available.
This ranch is in the in the habitat
transition range between South Texas
and the Hill Country. Parts of the
ranch look just like South Texas,
although we do have a few Oaks and a
few cedars. Our hunters have a
choice of a "camp out atmosphere" or
they can lodge in our guest rooms at
our home. For those that want to
“rough it” we have a large travel
trailer with AC and heater, BBQ pit
and camp fire ring. On this type
hunt you just bring your own food
and drinks and it’s more like a deer
lease atmosphere.
Our Double J Ranch is in the famous
Golden Triangle area of South Texas
where many of the famous high
scoring net book heads have come
from in years past. It's the red
sand country as some call it. We
have a beautiful New Mexico Adobe
style lodge there, built under a 60’
by 124’ hanger type structure. The
rooms have everything you may nned,
including huge 4’x4’ ceramic tile
showers, private satellite
television reception, fax machine,
e-mail and private phone. This ranch
produced a gross 170" plus a 167"
last season, and both were on
typical frames. We also took a 166"
management deer that was a main
frame 8 pointer. There is a
different atmosphere in this part of
Texas. Sightings of Wild Hogs,
Coyotes, Bob Cats, Bobwhite Quail
and, of course, Big Deer make your
hunt here a unique South Texas
experience. This ranch is also high
fenced and under an extinctive
yearly management program.
We hunt from deer blinds and each
hunter is guided. Our guides take
very good care of you during your
stay. We take care of everything
from field dressing your deer to
skinning, quartering and packing
your meat in ice chests.
Our hunt cost is based on B&C gross
scores and are priced accordingly.
Prices are all inclusive with
exception of hunting license and
personal effects. Tips are based on
performance and are appreciated by
our guides.
Come on down, we want to spoil you!
